For gas safety checks, the primary goal is to confirm that there is no risk of a gas leak, which could prove disastrous in accidents. The other priority is to detect if there is any buildup of carbon monoxide, as that indicates faulty equipment; carbon monoxide is highly toxic and should be taken seriously. A visual inspection of pipework and a tightness test is conducted to confirm there aren’t any gas leaks, and we may use a carbon monoxide detector to check for the gas.

The main risk with electrical appliances is exposed wires or other live parts coming into contact with metal surfaces, which can cause short circuiting and start fires. Modern electric appliances have safeguards against these situations, so a big part of the electric compliance check is to make sure all of those safety features are intact.
